Phra Phrom: The Guide to the All-Powerful Four-Faced God

Buddha or God?

While widely referred to as the "Four-Faced Buddha," Phra Phrom is actually Lord Brahma, the Creator God in the Hindu Trinity. He is honored in Buddhism because he embodies the "Four Sublime States of Mind": Loving-kindness, Compassion, Sympathizing joy, and Equanimity.

He is the god of creation and destiny, overseeing the prosperity and well-being of the human realm.

The Significance of the Four Faces

Each face of Phra Phrom represents a different dimension of protection and blessing (usually worshipped in a clockwise direction):

  1. First Face (Front): For career, success, studies, and general peace.
  2. Second Face (Clockwise): For love, relationships, and interpersonal charm.
  3. Third Face (Clockwise): For wealth, stable income, and windfall luck.
  4. Fourth Face (Clockwise): For health, family, and children.

The Eight Hands & Sacred Tools

Phra Phrom has eight hands holding various symbolic items, such as:

  • Scripture: Representing Knowledge and Wisdom.
  • Conch Shell: Representing Blessings.
  • Scepter: Representing Achievement and Power.
  • Prayer Beads: Representing Cycles and Mindfulness.
